I. Eclipse: Owned by the Russian billionaire and oligarch, Roman Abramovich, Eclipse is currently the world’s most expensive yacht.
The vessel was launched in the year 2009 at a developmental cost of over one billion. Manned by a crew of 70 members, the yacht measures 528 feet lengthwise and is equipped with state-of-the-art communication and defence technologies.
II. Dubai: Under the possession of the ruling Sheikh of Dubai, of the United Arab Emirates, the second costliest private yacht is the city’s namesake.
The vessel, with its cost of US$ 350 million, has a 524 feet length and is equipped with all the hi-tech gadgetries and uber-luxurious amenities expected from a vessel of its strata. Dubai is also at times acknowledged by its other names of Platinum and Panhandle.
III. Lady Moura: The third priciest private yachting vessel is owned by a middle-eastern prince, Nasser al-Rashid with an overall cost of construction of slightly over US$ 200 million.
The yacht was built at the German shipbuilding yard of Blohm and Voss and launched in the year 1990.
IV. Rising Sun: At a whopping price of US$ 200 million, fourth in the world’s 10 most pricey private yachts is the Rising Sun, jointly owned by the creator of the Oracle software – Larry Ellison – and David Geffen.
The shipbuilding conglomerate Lurssen takes the credit for the designing and building of this singular vessel.
V. Octopus: Featuring fifth here, the Octopus is a yacht owned by the joint-founder of Microsoft, Paul Allen and built by the German shipbuilding conglomerate Lurssen and designed by the world famous architect Jonathan Quinn Barnett.
The complete constructional cost for the Octopus touched figures of US$ 200 million.
VI. Pelorus: With a constructional cost of US$ 130 million, the Pelorus is the world’s sixth, most expensive yacht, measuring slightly over 337 feet lengthwise.
Another Lurssen constructional marvel, the designing architect for Pelorus is the well-known Tim Haywood. The yacht was launched in the year 2003 and still takes the cake as one of the princeliest yachts to be operating in modern times.
VII. Ecstasea: The Ecstasea’s cost of US$ 129 million and its distinctive style of construction, pave the way for its entry in this compilation.
The Ecstasea was formerly owned by Russian honcho Roman Abramovich, though the actual details of its present American owner are unavailable. The yacht was designed by Terence Disdale and the architectural firm of De Voogt.
VIII. Alysia: Ranking eight costliest in the world, the luxury yacht Alysia is under the ownership of Greek tycoon Andreas Liveras.
The vessel, built at the Neorion shipbuilding yard, had a construction cost of US $116 million and was launched in the year 2006.
IX. Annaliesse: With a cost of US$ 103 million, the Annaliesse is ranked as the ninth costliest yacht in the world.
The vessel is known for its entertainment amenities – especially its onboard cinema house.
X. Tatoosh: Another Paul Allen owned vessel, the Tatoosh was constructed at a cost of US$ 100 million and measures 301 feet in length.
The vessel boasts of onboard facilities and amenities of the highest degree possible.
While all these private yachts are owned by respected and most-moneyed members of the international society, some of these vessels are also available for chartering purposes. Those able to get a charter trip aboard these vessels can very well experience a slice of heaven on earth
